This site contains Smithon R-VI's upper level secondary art student's online portfolios. These pages were developed to incorporate technology into our art room and allow our community to visit student's artwork.
Smithton's art curriculum includes integrating technology towards student's learning. Our website will reflect what our students are doing in the classroom and on their own. The peices displayed reflect each student's ability, skill set, progression and personal maturity as a visual communicator.
The strength of this site is the students themselves write and post their own reflections. Each student is required to compile a physical portfolio. A portfolio is a collection of a student's artworks. Each assignment makes each artist reflect on what was learned and what was gained. Students writing about his or her learning is a great tool to objectively measure what he or she had learned and an excellent way to comprehend student's intentions and understanding of what he or she had gained through the whole process of an assignment. Another advantage is students must use art terminology while writing.
I couple this site with CollaborArt, a crafted website for collecting art biographies written by students about local artists. The site is the foundation of students learning about local artist and what it takes to make a living being one. The pages also expose artists to students and others who read our site. CollaborArt has teacher's resources for individuals wanting to add technology in his or her classroom too.
You will notice the student's last names have been withheld for security purposes. All contact about students art work or questions regarding this site will be fielded by Mr. Mercer.
We encourage you to bookmark this site as a means of checking in on us. You are welcome to look at our online portfolios but you are not allowed to 'snatch' any of our photos. Photos attatched to our student portfolios are property of Smithton R-VI and the students who performed them.
