From Square One

I started drawing seriously when I was like 11, I drew my first free hand picture of a person that I thought turned out really good. I lost the picture now, but I was really proud of it, it made me happy to look at it and others I began to do from there on out. I used to come up with characters in my head and I would think of what they looked like, they try my hardest to draw what I thought they looked like, at the time I couldn't draw too great, all of my characters stood the same way facing forward and looked a lot alike, I'm still not great with coming up with characters just off the top of my head, I need references most of the time, I try not to copy from the reference, just get an idea from it to help. But, my first drawing was a character named Vash, I got the idea of him from Trigun, and Final Fantasy 7. The main character from Trigun's name was Vash, but I tried not to seem like copyright, I just loved his name. And the main character from Final Fantasy 7 was Cloud Strife, and this character was a lot like both of them, more like Cloud though, very quiet. My character was a spiky haired quiet person with a lot of weight on him, so in every picture I drew of him, he would be frowning or have a blank expression on his face. And a lot of my future drawings revolved around him as characters.

Next Step

I realized that I was beginning to become unsatified with my 'skill' and wanted to start getting better and work on it, and that's why I began to do really try in art classes in both of my schools, and I think I have gotten better over the years, I looked at one of my old drawings and thought of how horrible it looked, and I wantd to do better. But, I still haven't recreated Vash, I'm afraid I will screw up, but I think sometime soon I will try to redo him, just to see how much better I have become. But, ever since 7th grade, I have been in art, I have tried to become a better artist, but I just don't think I'm that great, I have never really done an outstanding piece of work before, but maybe one day I can prove myself wrong.

My Art (so far)

In Art 1 I did a few pieces I have kept, I did one where we had to do a grid and I picked a picture of a guy I found on the internet, and I thought it turned out very good. I enjoyed doing it too. But, that's really the only piece I have ever kept, the keeping of pieces started in Art II. I didn't join Art II until the second semester, which I kind of regret, in that class, I got a lot better with my artwork, I kept a few pieces from when I was in that class, I did an Acrylic painting, water-color, and a couple others. But, by far, my water color was the best piece I have ever done. And that was my first major attempt at water color, and it got me excited for the rest of that year, and my Art III year, which I am excited for. Almost every piece I do has "manga" style artwork or game like references. Which are where I get two of my biggest inspirations, "manga" art is just amazing in my opinion, and I enjoy looking and doing it a lot. From the looks of it, I think that my art will slowly begin to increase in quality, my fear is to show my artwork alongside other peoples because I'm afraid of how people will judge mine, but I need to get over it in order to further my "artist experience".

Further in the Future

Now, I’m in Art IV, and I have exceeded in my talents from when I was younger. I have done a couple new pieces of artwork, these include “Fuel”, “Riku and Sora”, and “A Perfect Casting”, all of these using a different medium I was not very familiar to begin with. “Fuel” used color pencil, which is something I hadn’t mastered shading yet. “Riku and Sora” was by far my favorite piece, and it used a medium I had no idea how to use, but fell in love, oil paint. I had never done anything with oil painting, and it become my new favorite medium. The last piece had a new challenge which was “A Perfect Casting”, a slip cast. I had never done anything with plaster paris before, and I liked it! There were a lot of set backs with the piece, like I had to redo one of the molds over again, and my cup almost broke half-way through. But, throughout all of the hard times with my casting a mug, I liked the end result of each one. When this year is over I hope I can have more pieces to be proud of. I am optimistic over my last year having high school advanced art class.
